Is There a 12-Step Program for Soda Addiction?

If there is, I may have to start going to weekly meetings.  I can just hear it… “Hi.  My name is Amy (Hi Amy!) and I’m addicted to fountain pop. I’ve been clean for one month now.”

Last night I took my kids out to eat.  I ordered a water with lemon.  Talk about boring.  I kept staring at my kids’ sodas and thinking how much better I like soda than water or iced tea.  No fizz, no fun.  I’ve tried the fizzy, flavored bottled seltzer water, but it’s just not the same thing.  Food and pop just go together so well.

I may have to start carbonating my coffee.

  1. After many years of drinking way too much pop, alternating with years of going totally cold turkey, I have come to the conclusion that a limited amount of pop is okay and keeps me from going too far. I allow myself 1 can a day (or pop at one meal if we’re dining out) but no more. Other than that, I’ve developed quite a taste for chocolate milk since we started getting delivery from the local dairy (their milk tastes better to me, I think it’s sweeter, even without the chocolate). I figger that the dairy goodness outweighs the sugar of the chocolate syrup. 🙂
