You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby

Today is Eldest Son’s 16th birthday.  I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to type that.  Let me explain…

Things started out kinda rough for both Eldest Son and me.   I found out very early on in my pregnancy that something was wrong.  The kind of wrong where you have to stop working and sit around and watch soap operas all day.   Then you end up in the hospital for a month and they deliver your baby as soon as it’s safe.  He ended up being born at 36 weeks which was a blessing.  He had decided that he was done cooking at 32 weeks and we, thankfully, held out for another month.

Eldest Son started out as an adorable blonde cutie.  Good thing God made him so adorable – it saved him many a time from being in worse trouble than he was already in.   Nice words such as “busy” and “willful” and “challenging” come to mind.  The terrible twos lasted for about five years.

That all being said, he turned out to be a really great kid.  He’s smart, funny, curious, caring and interested in what’s going on in the world.  He loves his computer (probably too much), loves robotics and wants to be an engineer.  I don’t know what we’d do without him.

Happy Sweet 16, Eldest Son.   Hope your day is as sweet as you are.

  1. I have to point out that you have somehow not aged at all since this photo was taken. It seems impossible to me that you have a 16 year old! (Congrats, though.)
